176. Where may you legally stop with your vehicle? #

  • 6m from a railway crossing. (correct answer)
  • 5m from a pedestrian crossing.
  • 4m from a tunnel.

Why: You may not stop within 6 metres of a railway crossing. Beyond the prohibited distances, and where no sign forbids it, stopping is permitted.

177. You may? #

  • Put your arm out of the window only to give legal hand signals. (correct answer)
  • Leave your vehicles engine running without supervision.
  • Allow someone to ride on the bumper of your vehicle

178. You may on a public road? #

  • Pass another vehicle turning right, on its left -hand side without driving on the shoulder of the road. (correct answer)
  • Not pass any vehicle on the left-hand side.
  • Pass another vehicle at any place on the left-hand side if it is turning right.

Why: You may pass a vehicle that is turning right on its left-hand side, provided you can do so without driving on the shoulder of the road.

179. Show the correct statement. A driver may not stop their vehicle on the roadway of a public road? #

  • When indicated by a traffic officer.
  • In an intersection. (correct answer)

Why: You may not stop in an intersection. Stopping there blocks the flow of traffic from every direction.

180. A light motor vehicle fitted with a spot-lamp may be used on a public road. #

  • If the lights are not connected.
  • If it’s a breakdown vehicle at a collision scene. (correct answer)
  • With a light that’s beam can shine in any direction.

Why: A spot-lamp may only be used for a legitimate operational purpose — for example a breakdown vehicle working at a collision scene. It may not be used as an ordinary driving light.

181. When may you not overtake another vehicle? When you: Select the correct combination. #

  • Are nearing a curve. (correct answer)
  • Are nearing the top of hill. (correct answer)
  • Can only see 100m in front of you because of dust/smoke over the road. (correct answer)

Why: You may not overtake when approaching a curve or the crest of a hill, or when dust, smoke or other conditions limit your view to about 100 metres — in each case you cannot see far enough to complete the manoeuvre safely.

  • Run the engine unattended. (correct answer)
  • Use your vehicle without a cap on the fuel tank. (correct answer)
  • Spin the wheels of your vehicle when pulling off. (correct answer)

183. The license for your vehicle (clearance certificate) is valid for? #

  • Pedestrians who are already crossing the road when the red man signal starts showing, have right of way. (correct answer)
  • You can stop in it to off load passengers.

Why: Pedestrians who have already started crossing when the red man begins to show still have right of way. You must let them finish crossing before you proceed.

185. Unless otherwise shown by a sign, the general speed limit in an urban area is km/h. #

  • 60 (correct answer)
  • 100

  • Next to any obstruction in the road.
  • On the pavement.
  • With the front of your vehicle facing oncoming traffic. (correct answer)

Why: You may not park or stop facing oncoming traffic. Your vehicle must stand on the left, facing the direction of travel for that side of the road.

188. The fastest speed at which you may tow a vehicle with a rope is. #

  • 30km/h (correct answer)
  • 60km/h
  • 45km/h

189. How far must you be parked from either side of a fire hydrant? #

  • 750mm
  • 1.5 meter (correct answer)
  • 1 meter

Why: You may not park within 1,5 metres on either side of a fire hydrant, on the same side of the road as the hydrant, so the fire service can reach it.

190. You may not drive into an intersection when? #

  • The robot (traffic signal) is yellow and you are already in the intersection.
  • The vehicle in front of you wants to turn right and the road is wide enough to pass on the left side.
  • There is not enough space in the intersection to turn right without blocking other traffic. (correct answer)

Why: Do not enter an intersection unless there is room on the far side to clear it. Stopping in the intersection blocks cross-traffic.

191. If you come to a robot and the red-light flashes, you must? #

  • Look out for a road block as the light shows you a police stop.
  • Stop and go only if it safe to do so. (correct answer)

Why: A flashing red signal is treated as a stop. Bring the vehicle to a standstill and only proceed once it is safe to do so.

  • On any road to avoid an accident. (correct answer)
  • On a public road at the signal of a person driving sheep. (correct answer)

  • Only for the driver to give hand signals. (correct answer)
  • When it is hot and the driver’s window is open.
  • Only passengers may allow a portion of their bodies to project, they don’t need 2 hands on the steering wheel.

Why: Only for the driver to give a legal hand signal. No other part of any person's body may project beyond the vehicle.

194. A Temporary sign. #

  • Has the same legal significance as a permanent sign. (correct answer)
  • Need not be taken seriously at all times.
  • Is of less importance to road users than a permanent sign.

195. What color and size must flags be to indicate projections on a vehicle on a public road? #

  • They may be any colour as long as they are visible.
  • They can be any size as long as they are red.

199. In which case is it permitted to travel with only the parking lights of your vehicle switched on? #

  • When driving in heavy rain.
