Showing questions 26–50 of 212

26. Where may you legally stop with your vehicle? #

  • 6m from a railway crossing. (correct answer)
  • 5m from a pedestrian crossing.

Why: You may not stop within 6 metres of a railway crossing. Beyond the prohibited distances, and where no sign forbids it, stopping is permitted.

27. What are the requirements for a vehicle being used with excessive noise? #

  • There are no requirements with regards to excessive noise on a vehicle
  • No person shall operate a vehicle on a public road that causes any excessive noise. (correct answer)

28. The fastest speed at which you may tow a vehicle with a rope is? #

  • 45kph
  • 30kph (correct answer)
  • 60kph

Why: A vehicle towed with a rope or chain may not exceed 30 km/h, unless the towing vehicle is connected by a tow-bar.

29. A light motor vehicle fitted with a spot-lamp may be used on a public road? #

  • If the lights are not connected.
  • If it’s a breakdown vehicle at a collision scene. (correct answer)
  • With a light that’s beam can shine in any direction.

Why: A spot-lamp may only be used for a legitimate operational purpose — for example a breakdown vehicle working at a collision scene. It may not be used as an ordinary driving light.

30. If you come to a robot and the red-light flashes, you must? #

  • Look out for a road block as the light shows you a police stop.
  • Stop and wait for the light to change to green before you go.

  • 1.5 meter (correct answer)
  • 1 meter
  • 750mm

Why: You may not park within 1,5 metres on either side of a fire hydrant, on the same side of the road as the hydrant, so the fire service can reach it.

  • First move to the right to enable you to turn left easily.

  • Your licence was suspended temporarily and the suspension has not yet expired. (correct answer)
  • You are declared unfit to obtain a driving licence for a certain period and that period still prevails. (correct answer)
  • You already have a licence that authorizes the driving of the same vehicle class. (correct answer)

Why: You cannot obtain a learner's licence if you already hold a licence for that class of vehicle, if you have been declared unfit for a period that is still running, or if your licence is under a suspension that has not yet expired.

34. Vehicle of which the brakes are not good, must be towed? #

  • With a rope.
  • With a tow-bar. (correct answer)
  • On a trailer.

Why: A vehicle whose brakes are defective must be towed with a tow-bar, not a rope or chain, so the towing vehicle can control it.

35. A Temporary sign. #

  • Is of less importance to road users than a permanent sign.
  • Has the same legal significance as a permanent sign. (correct answer)
  • Need not be taken seriously at all times.

Why: A temporary sign has exactly the same legal significance as a permanent one. Temporary signs are used at roadworks and incidents, and disobeying one is an offence in the same way.

36. You are not allowed to stop? #

  • Opposite a vehicle, where the roadway is 10m wide.
  • 5m from a bridge. (correct answer)
  • Where you are also prohibited to park.

  • Not more than 1m from the edge of the roadway. (correct answer)

  • There is not enough space in the intersection to turn right without blocking other traffic. (correct answer)
  • The robot (traffic signal) is yellow and you are already in the intersection.
  • The vehicle in front of you wants to turn right and the road is wide enough to pass on the left side.

Why: Do not enter an intersection unless there is room on the far side to clear it. Stopping in the intersection blocks cross-traffic.

43. What is important with regard to the hooter of your vehicle? #

  • Someone must hear it from a distance of at least 50m.
  • The tone of pitch of the sound may not change. (correct answer)
  • You may use it to get the attention of someone that you would like to offer a lift.

Why: The hooter must give a single, constant tone — the pitch may not change. Multi-tone or siren-like devices are not permitted on an ordinary vehicle.

44. When do you have the right of way? Choose the correct combination #

  • When you have stopped first at a four – way stop. (correct answer)
  • When you want to turn right at an intersection in a two-way road.
  • When you are within a traffic circle. (correct answer)

Why: You have right of way when you stopped first at a four-way stop, and when you are already within a traffic circle. Vehicles entering must yield to you.

47. The legal speed limit which you may drive? #

  • Is always 120km/h outside an urban area.
  • Can be determined by yourself if you look at the number of lanes the road has.
