K53 direction signs: reading route guidance
Direction signs tell you where each route goes. Learn the K53 guidance direction signs used on South African roads and how to read them at speed. There are 13 direction signs in the K53 Examiner study library below.
Near-side on-ramp Direction(DS10)On the left-hand side of an ordinary road on the far side of an on-ramp.
Advance Exit Direction(DS3)On the left-hand side of a freeway, about 1 km before an off-ramp exit.
Supplementary Exit Direction(DS4)On the left-hand side of a freeway, about 500m before an off-ramp exit.
Far-side Advance on-ramp Direction(DS11)On the left-hand side of an ordinary road after a “Near-side on-ramp direction” sign.
Far-side on-ramp Direction(DS12)Usually on the left-hand side of an ordinary road, opposite an on-ramp.
Overhead Direction(DS1)On any road with more than one traffi8c lane, especially in rural areas.
Pre-advance Exit Direction(DS2)On the left-hand side or in an overhead position on a freeway, about 2 km before an off-ramp exit.
Gore Exit(DS6)Between the right-hand side of an off-ramp and the continuing freeway.
Exit Sequence(DS8)On the left-hand side of a freeway about 2km before the first exit indicated.
Exit Direction(DS5)On the left-hand side of a freeway and as close as possible to the off-ramp.
Confirmation(DS7)On the left-hand side of the road about 750 m after entering a freeway and after that every 5 to 10 km.
Cross-route Advance Direction Rural, Urban(DS9)On the left-hand side of an ordinary road.
Overhead Freeway Direction(DS13)On any freeway.
